Neon Prep

Well, the weather is finally warm enough to shed the unbelievably thick layers and scarves so to celebrate, I put together this comfortable yet preppy look great for the spring months. I really like the layered button down trend so I decided to try it out for myself. I paired my faux denim button down with a neon yellow crew neck, both from Uniqlo. For pants, I chose my floral patterned ones from American Eagle along with some navy suede flats from Gap. For an extra pop of color, I wore my favorite necklace from Bershka which I love because at first it might seem a bit out of place in contrast with the entire outfit but the colors go surprisingly well together creating a fun and casual vibe.

My apologies for the short post today, I’ve got some great content coming up in the next couple of weeks so keep refreshing! Also, I’m going to be away this coming week for Spring holiday so I won’t be posting but I will make sure to document my outfits and post up when I get back!

Spring Blues

Contrary to the title of this post, I am not blue at all…in fact, I am quite happy at the moment, especially because the weather is finally turning around! Hallelujah. This outfit is definitely a look geared for the warmer months and I am so pleased with how it turned out.

I just purchased this perfectly cropped long sleeve sweater from Zara, it comes in a few different colors, all that I desperately wanted to take home with me but ultimately I ended up choosing my absolute favorite color–aqua blue. I was a bit worried about how I would style it in a school-appropriate way (the perks of having a strict dress code..) but was happy to find out that paired with my black circle skirt from Mossimo makes for a perfect combination. I added some tights and my beloved Steve Madden ankle boots to complete the look. As for my hair, I wasn’t having a particularly great hair-day so I threw on a cute silk printed headscarf as a way to add even more ‘Spring’ to the look!

Lupita, the Goddess…and 2014’s Best Supporting Actress

Even before her huge win at the Oscars just hours ago, I have been a huge fan of Lupita Nyong’o. She is such an independent, influential woman and I know she is going to be a huge figure in the industry (even more than she already is) in the years to come. Her role in “12 Years a Slave” was absolutely phenomenal and I simply cannot wait for her next projects, especially her campaign as the face of Miu Miu for the upcoming season.

As a way to pay tribute to Lupita and all of her rightly-deserved success, here are ten (although I could easily rave about my top 50) of my favorite looks of hers that she has so effortlessly pulled off. Not only is she an actress but also a major fashion icon whom I have been obsessing over the past couple of months. She always seems to wear just enough color, or just the right combination of patterns to not only ‘wow’ me, but the entire universe–I swear.

7th annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood luncheon wearing a Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 cream two-piece look styled with matching Sophia Webster shoes, an Elie Saab clutch and Neil Lane jewels.

From her guest appearance on the ‘Today’ show. She wore a Miu Miu red-and-blue frock with a chic cropped navy Prada jacket.

At the 2014 BAFTA’s in London — Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture collection dress, worn with Christian Louboutin heels.

She attended a press conference and portrait session to promote her movie, ’12 Days A Slave’ during the 2013 Toronto Film Festival. Her whole outfit is comprised of Honor’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection pieces she picked out. Black suede Manolo Blahnik pumps and Lulu Frost ‘Orbit’ earrings completed her look.

At IFP’s 23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards wearing a Lanvin white strapless dress with a grosgrain bow detail from the Spring 2014 ‘Blanche’ Collection.

At Entertainment Weekly’s celebration honoring the 2014 SAG Awards nominees, wearing a vintage Valentina dress from New York Vintage as well as an Amanda Pearl clutch, Paul Andrew pewter pumps and Platt jewels including a hair brooch.

At her guest appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, dressed in a Cushnie et Ochs Spring 2014 sleeveless cowl neck crop top and high-waist, wide-leg trousers.

At the Calvin Klein Collection Fall 2014 fashion show during New York Fashion Week along side Naomi Watts. Wearing a Calvin Klein Collection Pre-Fall 2014 long-sleeve dress with a tied waist which she styled with matching CK sandals and a CK grey clutch.

At the TIFF HFPA/InStyle Party during the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Wearing a black Veronica Beard jumpsuit, Paul Andrew pumps, Kwiat jewels and a gold Calvin Klein clutch.

Now, this list is in no particular order but I obviously had to save this one for last. I mean, come on, for the entire night she was known as ‘Lupitarella’ (aka Cinderella), sporting the beautiful Nairobi blue Prada gown. She was, and is, beyond-words stunning and if you haven’t seen her moving, eloquent acceptance speech, you must right away. I know she will continue to stun me, and thousands of others for many years to come– Congratulations, Lupita!!

Navy&Black Are Back

I mean, they never really were nor will be out of style any time soon…honestly this combination of hues has to be one of my most favorites. Any ensemble that coordinates navy and black have you looking chic instantly.

This outfit made me feel very professional–I felt like the person I aspire to be one day, walking to work with a coffee in hand, loving life and my hopefully successful fashion/journalism/linguistic related job…it’s safe to say I was day dreaming a lot yesterday. Anyway, my favorite part of this look is the top, it’s from H&M but the quality is very high-end compared to many other items I have purchased from there in the past. It’s made of two types of material, navy suede and black neoprene–two textures I’ve seen a lot this past season. I absolutely love the shape of this top; the two materials are sewn together in a way that creates a slimming effect and it even has built-in shoulder pads for extra structure–yay!  I was actually gifted this top by one of my friends, Mackenzie, she thought I’d like it..she knows me well! Gracias, Kenz!

As for the rest of the outfit, I decided to add my beloved gold chain necklace to add some edge to the sophisticated look. My black riding pants from American Eagle, another one of my favorites this past season, went well with the top and blazer because they are bit dressier than jeans but still comfortable and school appropriate.Lastly I threw on my favorite Steve Madden ankle booties and pulled my hair back into a low ponytail.

What do you think? Will you be sporting navy and black any time soon? Let me know in the comments below!

Mint Rouge

Hello my lovelies!

My apologies for the stillness of Lucybellaink this past week, I was away at a basketball tournament with my team and the wifi was quite spotty, making it impossible for me to get a post up unfortunately. I really wanted to get this up before I left but of course, was short of time. Anyway, I wore this look on Tuesday and loved it. I felt so fierce, mostly because of my side braids. As a tradition before this annual tournament, my basketball team gets cornrows so we look extra baller on court, ha. I personally love the look but I understand they are definitely not everyone’s style.

For this look, I layered my mint cropped jumper with my favorite LBD from H&M. I added some stockings from a korean boutique as well for warmth. I was pleased with how the layering turned out because I have been seeing this trend a lot lately and thought I should try it for myself. I already have more ideas on how to incorporate this style into many looks so stay tuned! For some accents, I added a simple yet statement necklace from American Eagle and a raspberry lip color–my fave. I wore my new Steve Madden ankle booties which I have been lusting after for ages and finally got them in a great sale as well as another new purchase, my Zara coat, for extra warmth.

I felt very bold with this look and although it’s a bit edgier than my usual style, I am really pleased with it! It’s always fun to spice things up a bit, don’t you think? Let me know what you think in the comments below x

The Great Gatsby: A Night to Remember

Saturday night came and went so quickly I wish I could rewind just to relive it all over again! I have always looked forward to the homecoming dance, mostly because I love getting all dolled up with my closest friends but also because I love to dance the night away! This year’s dance was Gatsby themed–YAY–and I could not contain my excitement. The decor was on point, complete with strings of twinkling lights, rose petals, pearls everywhere and there was also a photo booth, cotton candy, chocolates, and champagne (nonalcoholic of course ;)…) I absolutely love everything The Great Gatsby, so I was determined to make the most of the night.

My dress is from American Eagle; it’s quite simple with some gold accents and a bold cut out in the back. It was the perfect length and made it so easy to dance and have a great time. My shoes are from Nine West, again just basic nude pumps, a wardrobe must-have in my opinion. Finally, I was most excited about my accessories–they definitely completed the entire look. My headpiece is from a small Korean jewelry boutique and it’s just a cluster of pearls, amber jewels, as well as some gold accents; I decided to straighten my hair so I though the piece was a great statement. My necklace is also from American Eagle and is compiled of three strings of pearls strung together loosely; the earrings I am wearing are from Macy’s Jewelers.

I am so pleased with how my makeup turned out; usually I am a bit hesitant with my makeup looks because I am not a pro artist by any means but this year I was a lot bolder with my products. For eyes, I did a subtle smokey eye as well as a bold cat eye which I layered with gold glitter; I also used mascara and eyeliner. I went with nude lips and a flush of color on my cheeks.

It’s safe to say I had an amazing night, better than any from the previous years. We had a great table, delicious treats, and my friends and I definitely spent some time on the dance floor! It was quite a night–one I’ll remember forever. Mwah!

New Year, New Me

What a generic title but, if I am being honest, that is really what I am hoping 2014 brings. Not necessarily a completely different person, just a better version of myself. 2013 was a very tough year, but it was filled with so many highlights that I am beyond grateful for–in fact, it is almost the year anniversary of this blog which I really can’t fathom. That was definitely one of my biggest accomplishments of 2013, to start a blog, something I had been debating for too long before I finally just clicked the ‘Publish’ button. Anyway, I guess I just want to say thank you. Thank you to my readers, my subscribers, my viewers, and my supporters—Lucybellaink has changed me, it has made me become more confident, more sure of myself, and just more excited for what the future holds.

For this new year, I have decided, although resolutions are not usually my kind of thing, I am going to make a list. A list of the things I’d like to change, improve, or even begin.

Naturally I thought, “Why not blog about it?”

So here we go:

In 2014, I would like to…

  • Stop stressing about things that are out of my control
  • Make the absolute most of the time I have with the amazing friends I have now but unfortunately will not have by my side next year
  • Visit Tokyo and reconnect with the culture, the food, and the people
  • Forget about those who have hurt me, there is no need to waste time stuck in the past or thinking about what could have been
  • Say what’s on my mind, some of my biggest regrets have been made because I was too afraid of my own thoughts
  • Manage my time A LOT better than I did in 2013 #procrastinationnationnomore
  • Spend as much time as I can with my family
  • Make a name for myself in the blogosphere

I don’t know why I had the urge to share this with you all…but I did and I hope you see this as inspiration. Inspiration to take control of your life and your dreams, hopefully I will be doing the same this year. I hope that in one year, I can revisit this list, feeling positive and sure that I haven’t wasted any more time—ultimately, I want to make the most of my life! For some reason, that seems so exciting to me and I also hope this collection of my thoughts and inspirations, more generically known as my blog, will be a representation of that throughout this next year and onwards.

One of my all-time favorite quotes–my inspiration for the new year:

Happy New Year! Here’s to the many exciting ‘firsts’ of 2014!

Workout of the Week – #2 – #FBC

So how did the first week of workouts go?

I love how this idea is turning out already and I’ve compiled a new schedule for a new week!

This week, I want to focus legs and abs– specifically, toning your legs and strengthening your abs. I’ve found two great workouts, both very challenging but super rewarding. Going along with the Victoria’s Secret Angel theme from last week, I came across a routine to tone your legs like the Angels. My legs are my biggest area of improvement as far as exercise goes and as soon as I found this workout, I knew I had to try it. The routine is a video and the trainer, Rebecca Louise, is a great motivator and instructor.

Please use this link when doing your workout! (On the schedule, I’ll be calling this “VS Legs”)

The next routine focuses on your abs and strengthening your core muscles. It’s called the Absolutely Fabulous Abs Workout (on the schedule, I’ll call this “AFA”) and it’s super simple and easy to do wherever you are.

Absolutely Fabulous Abs

*8 Push Ups

*25 Russian Twists (One leg up, switch leg)

*10 V-Sits

*30 Crunches

*10 Sit Ups

*10 V-Sits

*35 Bicycle Crunches

*10 Reverse Crunches

*30 second to 1 minute plank (depending on your ability)

Repeat 3 times!

Now that I’ve introduced the workouts, here is the schedule:

Friday: 30 minute run + VS Legs

Saturday: 20 minute jog + AFA

Sunday: 5 km run + VS Legs

Monday: 20/30 minute jog + AFA

Tuesday: No running, choose either VS Legs or AFA

Wednesday: 5 km run

Thursday: No running, choose either VS Legs or AFA

Feel free to adjust the schedule to your comfort level, but remember to push yourself!

Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated–try and drink at least two water bottles a day.

Hope you’re all finding the motivation and stamina to push through these workouts! Look out for my next post, it’ll be fashion-related and super fun xxx

From New York City to…

So I recently received a package in the mail from American Eagle which had a few goodies I ordered during a sale a couple months back. Now personally, I really like American Eagle’s pants selection as well as dresses so that’s basically the reason I was on the site during that sale. Of course, instead of just checking out after finding the two items I actually needed, I ended up with a couple other pieces, all of which I am very happy about! What can you expect, online shopping is not good for me but it’s just so addicting… Anyway, the graphic tee I am wearing is one of the spontaneous pieces I purchased; like I’ve said many times before, I love neutral colors right now and this shirt seemed so comfy yet effortlessly chic–a look I strive for most days, so I knew I had to have it.

The whole outfit is centered around the tee, I just added some of my favorite basics to tie the look together–my white converse and dark wash skinnies. I also added a light jumper for a pop of color because the weather has been quite gloomy lately. Although the color of my jumper is coming off quite red, in actuality it’s more of a raspberry color.

Quite a simple look for today but I didn’t have much to dress up for so this is what I came up with!

What do you like to throw on for your lazy days out and about?

Hope you enjoyed, Happy Holidays!
